In recent years, online marketplace sales have reached new heights: in 2020 the gross merchandise value (GMV) of the top online marketplaces reached $2.68 trillion, up 29% from 2019, and 85% over 2017. However, this growth comes at a cost - as fraud is estimated to cost the global economy $32.39 billion, almost tripling since 2011.
Using sophisticated methods, networks of threat actors take advantage of platforms to defraud users by promoting fake or misrepresented products, accepting payment for items that they will not send, or other means. Unresolved, these threats will leave platforms exposed to both financial and reputational risks.
Mitigating these threats requires a deep understanding of threat actor behaviors, the networks in which they operate, and their tactics and incentives. In order to stop playing a reactive game of whack-a-mole, platforms must identify risks at their origin.
In this on-demand webinar, Amit Dar, ActiveFence Senior Director of Strategy, will provide a glimpse into the dark world of online fraudsters, providing viewers with deep intelligence into the fraud economy, and the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP’s) used by fraudsters to take advantage of buyers and platforms alike. This intelligence will empower the Trust & Safety teams of product marketplaces to efficiently identify threat actors through an analysis of their on-and off-platform activities.
